4/11/24 – Day 1 Montgomery – Archives, Capitol, Legislative 101


The events on this first day is  ALL FREE, but I do need you to fill out the Google form so I know to expect you. The legislative 101 and MOOseum are an either or. THey are at the same time to offer options. You do not have to sign up for everything. I will be including a welcome packet on this trip of area FREE places to see, murals, and info all of the monuments on the Capitol Grounds. We will have a picnic lunch on the Capitol Grounds, or you can run and get food near by! 

10am  – Alabama Archives – guided tour

The Alabama Department of Archives and History is the official repository of archival records for the U.S. state of Alabama. Under the direction of Thomas M. Owen its founder, the agency received state funding by an act of the Alabama Legislature on February 27, 1901

1pm – Alabama State Capitol Tour – guided tour

The Alabama State Capitol, listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the First Confederate Capitol, is the state capitol building for Alabama. Located on Capitol Hill, originally Goat Hill, in Montgomery, it was declared a National Historic Landmark on December 19, 1960.

2:30 Legislative 101 – Class at State House

You will learn how the AL state legislature works, how a bill becomes a law, and tips on how to lobby your legislators.  This is a great step by step introduction to the Alabama Legislative process, to how to you our legislative website ALISON, and how to effectively lobby for issues that concern you! 

The Legislative 101 will be hosted by a partisan group (Eagle Forum), but I am offering an alternative for that time slot, and have let them know I want them to stick to JUST the basics, no side trips.
